
Director, Engineering – New Energy Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Oversee the engineering development of New Energy Systems, specifically focusing on hydrogen-based systems, which includes:
• Electrolysis technologies (PEM, alkaline, or SOEC)
• Hydrogen storage solutions (compressed gas, liquid hydrogen, or innovative storage media)
• Fuel cell systems (PEM, SOFC, or hybrid configurations), linear generators, nuclear, and thermal generators
• Balance-of-plant components (compression, purification, thermal management, controls)
• Propel the New Energy Systems roadmap, steering technology from initial concept through demonstration and into commercial deployment.
• Assess emerging generation technologies and products for incorporation into the company’s solution offerings, including:
• Technical performance and degradation characteristics
• Safety and intrinsic hazards
• Supply chain preparedness and scalability
• Levelized cost of energy (LCOE)
• Formulate and manage stage-gate processes for New Energy Systems, advancing technologies and products from TRL 4–8 and MRL 4–8.
• Establish technical criteria and lead the system architecture design, including integration with:
• Renewable energy generation (solar, wind)
• Grid interconnection and microgrids
• Energy management systems (EMS) and SCADA
• Assist in project development and execution, which entails:
• Conceptual and detailed design
• Equipment specification and vendor selection
• Collaboration with EPC and construction teams
• Ensure adherence to relevant codes and standards
• Spearhead the creation of product documentation, including:
• Design basis and system specifications
• Installation and commissioning procedures
• Operations & maintenance manuals
• Work alongside supply chain and manufacturing teams to industrialize hydrogen and fuel cell systems.
• Facilitate funding and partnership opportunities, including grants (DOE, CEC), strategic alliances, and pilot projects.
• Provide technical assistance for commercial deployments to guarantee performance, reliability, and ongoing improvement.
• Cultivate a culture of technical excellence, innovation, accountability, and collaboration among multidisciplinary teams.
• 15 years of experience or equivalent with a bachelor's degree in mechanical, chemical, or electrical engineering (or a related engineering field).
• Over 10 years of experience in managing project engineering and/or delivering cross-functional teams for hazardous material facilities.
• More than 5 years of experience in teams focused on developing complex and innovative energy solutions.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, up to 33%.
