This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Effectively overseeing consulting projects with peer organizations and professional firms from initiation to completion, with a focus on developing methodologies and tools to measure the water and other benefits derived from reforestation and forest health initiatives.
• Identifying and establishing a business case for new innovative areas within American Forests, particularly regarding funding and financing strategies that support resilient forest ecosystems.
• Conducting evaluations of impactful policy interventions at both state and municipal levels that promote increased financial support for reforestation and forest health.
• Analyzing and sharing insights from external datasets pertaining to relevant corporate partners.
• Successfully creating and delivering presentations to teams throughout American Forests on emerging trends, new tools, and various topics.
• The Director for Emerging Ecosystem Services Markets will act as a pivotal thought leader for American Forests on innovative ecosystem services markets and financing mechanisms in the U.S., including water and resilience markets.
• Manage daily interactions with expert consultants concerning water benefit accounting from reforestation and other restoration efforts.
• Collaborate with the science team on developing impact measurement tools and methodologies.
• Research, Data Analysis, and Thought Leadership: Actively monitor and communicate trends related to ecosystem services markets to the American Forests teams.
• Oversee the administration of consulting projects, including monitoring project progress, documenting outcomes, and preparing final grant reports.
• A bachelor's degree in Hydrology, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or a related discipline is required.
• A master's degree in Hydrology, Civil Engineering, or Environmental Engineering is highly preferred.
• At least seven (7) years of experience in project management related to hydrology, civil engineering, forestry, natural resources, or ecological restoration with demonstrated success.
• Experience in water benefit accounting and corporate water stewardship.
• Proficient in creating and editing financial models using Excel.
• Experience in a consulting firm or other project-based, professional services-oriented role.
• Familiarity and comfort with software platforms and technical tools for project tracking and data management.
• Proficiency with Airtable, ArcGIS, Excel, and other geospatial or project management software is preferred.
• Strong analytical skills, creativity, curiosity, openness to feedback, and the ability to effectively engage with individuals at all organizational levels.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical data to non-technical audiences.
