Director, Data Platform Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.

📋 Description

• Oversee a multidisciplinary data organization, focusing on recruitment, talent development, and establishing career frameworks while integrating traditional expertise with contemporary platform capabilities.

• Work collaboratively with analytics, product, engineering, and business teams to deliver the foundational platform they rely on.

• Be responsible for the architecture and execution of the enterprise data platform across cloud environments, catering to batch, streaming, structured, and unstructured data.

• Establish and manage enterprise-level data architecture patterns and data modeling standards, applying them in a practical manner across various domains.

• Create integration strategies for source systems to enhance data quality, mitigate technical debt, and improve access to trustworthy data.

• Define the data product model with clear ownership, service level agreements (SLAs), versioning, and discoverability, transitioning the team’s output from data pipelines to reliable, consumable data assets.

• Lead the design and implementation of the enterprise semantic layer with standardized metrics and business definitions that support BI tools, AI foundations, and operational consumers from a unified source of truth.

• Integrate governance into the engineering lifecycle through data contracts, policy-as-code, lineage automation, quality assessments, and access controls with traceable versioning.

• Develop the data infrastructure necessary for AI/ML workloads, including feature pipelines, vector storage, embedding pipelines, and model-ready data products across all enterprise data assets.

⛳️ Requirements

• Possess experience in data engineering, architecture, and data platforms, with a proven history of leading technical teams and delivering modern, cloud-based data solutions.

• Have created data products with end-users in mind, including managing SLAs and integrating continuous feedback mechanisms.

• Hold a hands-on background in semantic layer design and demonstrate strong analytics engineering practices.

• Understand how to implement governance-as-code, including data contracts, lineage tracking, quality assurance, and access as essential engineering artifacts.

• Have practical knowledge of AI data infrastructure, such as feature stores, vector databases, and pipelines for unstructured data.

• Bring extensive data modeling expertise across various paradigms and know how to apply the appropriate approach based on the context.

• Have experience managing teams with diverse skill sets across different geographical locations.

• Be proficient in the modern data stack, including cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), as well as data lakes and data warehouses like Snowflake or BigQuery, and understand the evolution of tools to support AI use cases.
