Director, Data and Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take full ownership of the complete data architecture, encompassing ingestion, ETL, transformation, extracts, and stakeholder dashboards.

• Manage DevOps and infrastructure for the AI engineering team, including the platform architecture from ingestion to serving.

• Establish technical direction and standards for data infrastructure, pipelines, ETL/transformation logic, and platform reliability.

• Design and implement accurate, timely, and dependable extract and reporting layers.

• Build, deploy, monitor, and stabilize production-grade systems and infrastructure.

• Write and deliver production-quality code.

• Build and lead the data and platform team, including recruitment and daily management.

• Mentor engineers on architecture, data design, DevOps, and platform methodologies.

• Effectively communicate technical trade-offs to engineers, architects, and leadership.

• Collaborate with AI engineering leadership to synchronize platform investments with product and research goals.

• Convert business and executive priorities into data strategy and architecture decisions.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in architecting and developing production platforms (strong candidates with less experience may still be considered).

• Demonstrated, hands-on expertise in owning data architecture from end to end, including ingestion, ETL and transformation, extracts, and the reporting or BI layer.

• Proven hands-on experience in DevOps, including building, deploying, and managing systems and infrastructure at scale.

• A strong history of writing and delivering production-quality code.

• Practical experience with big data/distributed processing technologies such as Spark and Kafka.

• Familiarity with NoSQL and document stores like MongoDB and DynamoDB.

• Experience with data warehousing solutions such as Snowflake, Redshift, and BigQuery.

• Proficiency in high-throughput transactional databases including Postgres and MySQL.

• Strong practices in handling and detecting PHI/PII.

• Experience with GitOps workflows, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure such as AWS or equivalent.

• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills.

• Experience mentoring engineers in architecture, data design, DevOps, and/or platform methodologies.

• Previous experience in building and leading a team, or a clear readiness to manage direct reports.

• Comfort in working within a small, fast-paced team where versatility is essential.

• Bonus: experience in architecting data platforms for AI/ML workloads, vector databases, regulated data environments, and greenfield platforms.
