This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +6 more states.
• Assists SouthState Bank in executing its enterprise-wide BSA/AML Program to guarantee compliance with all regulatory requirements regarding onboarding, initial, and ongoing monitoring and assessment of high and higher-risk customer relationships;
• Duties encompass identifying high-risk customers and relationships, as well as reviewing and documenting high-risk activities.
• Develop and implement elements of the BSA/AML customer risk program to aid in the identification and management of higher-risk activities within the organization;
• Maintain a thorough understanding of all industry segments, product types, and services typically regarded as high risk from a BSA/AML standpoint;
• Supervise unit workflow to ensure staff responsibilities are fulfilled as anticipated; conduct periodic quality control reviews to confirm that high-risk evaluations are adequately documented and that unusual activity referrals are made as necessary;
• Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization, including the FIU management team, to safeguard SSB's interests and provide guidance to business lines on BSA/AML risk mitigation strategies, develop analytical tools and methodologies for assessing and monitoring customer risk, contribute to significant regulatory initiatives, and report on customer risk exposures and metrics to facilitate informed and strategic decision-making;
• Bachelor’s degree is preferred
• At least 7-10 years of senior-level BSA/AML experience within the financial services sector; preference will be given to candidates with experience in mid-size or larger financial institutions
• Proven experience in managing personnel and projects
• Proficient in conducting investigations and advanced due diligence
• Extensive background in complex commercial structures
• Experience in private capital, payments, trade finance, and international banking is advantageous
• Skilled in monitoring, reviewing, and analyzing account activities to detect unusual or suspicious actions
• Certification as an Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) and/or other relevant BSA/AML certifications is preferred
• Comprehensive understanding of BSA/AML regulations concerning the monitoring of higher-risk customer relationships
• Strong grasp of banking operations, including navigating banking systems, comprehending teller transactions, and interpreting customer transactions
• In-depth knowledge and expertise in all industry segments, products, and services deemed high risk by any regulatory agency or prudential regulator.
• Proficient in the requirements of CIP, IDV, CDD, EDD, and beneficial ownership to ensure compliance with regulations related to the Bank Secrecy Act, USA PATRIOT Act, and other pertinent statutes, regulations, or guidance.
