This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Serve as a technical thought leader to advocate for May Mobility’s mission, vision, values, and company priorities while developing and implementing the autonomy strategy alongside fellow executives and engineering leaders.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with leaders in Vehicle Engineering, Product, and Operations to address and deploy solutions for autonomy perception challenges.
• Drive innovative advancements in May’s perception technology, achieving measurable enhancements in object detection, classification, tracking, and prediction.
• Ensure the efficient and effective operation of May’s core perception technologies in commercial deployments, including supporting the timely triage and resolution of related issues.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant research areas, including machine learning, end-to-end learned systems, tracking systems, multi-sensor fusion, and behavior prediction.
• Lead the design and specification of next-generation sensor suites to enhance the performance of May’s perception systems while optimizing costs. Collaborate with systems and hardware teams for prototyping and evaluation of future systems.
• Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor autonomy performance.
• Identify critical gaps and challenges within May’s autonomy perception technology.
• Create and implement a roadmap to address key challenges and collaborate with other autonomy leaders to align this roadmap with the objectives of other functions.
• Establish monthly, quarterly, and yearly milestones to facilitate iterative improvements in both short and long-term performance.
• Take ownership of the overall planning, execution, and success of complex technical projects, providing technical leadership to the team.
• Assist in setting hiring targets for the perception team. Conduct interviews, hire, and manage a diverse group of skilled perception engineers and scientists.
• Oversee the escalation of critical issues and opportunities within the autonomy team’s leadership, delivering clear recommendations to enhance the team's effectiveness in alignment with company priorities and strategy.
• 10+ years of engineering experience.
• PhD or master’s degree in a relevant and highly technical field (e.g., robotics, computer science, computer engineering, aerospace engineering, physics).
• Proven track record of solving complex autonomy issues as a principal investigator, staff or principal engineer, or director (or equivalent role).
• 7+ years of software-focused engineering experience addressing challenging robotics problems in mission-critical software and/or robotic systems.
• Experience leading a team of 10+ engineers, setting goals, leading by example, and managing challenging situations and failures.
• Prior experience as an individual contributor successfully developing and deploying innovative solutions in the autonomous vehicle or related industry.
