This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado, +3 more states.
• Establish and lead a center of excellence for operational accounting.
• Drive consistent execution, accountability, governance, and continual enhancement.
• Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of accounting and financial reporting data.
• Monitor cash and suspense reconciliation open items, including aging, exposure, root cause themes, and remediation progress.
• Identify operational gaps, control weaknesses, process breakdowns, and opportunities for improvement.
• Authorize and/or approve legal, regulatory, or company documents as necessary.
• Review written analyses and make recommendations to senior management.
• Collaborate with Operations, Finance, Risk, Internal Controls, and other stakeholders to resolve accounting issues and enhance controls.
• Apply technical accounting principles across various bases of accounting.
• Create financial reports and complex models for forecasting, trending, and results analysis.
• Ensure adherence to the Company’s internal control framework.
• Oversee management staff, including hiring, guiding, coaching, training, and conducting performance appraisals.
• Align staff objectives, project priorities, cleanup initiatives, and process improvement goals with business priorities and risk reduction objectives.
• Contribute to organizational strategy and policy while managing risks.
• Develop the strategic direction for the department/business unit.
• Manage the departmental budget.
• Foster accountability, innovation, teamwork, and a customer-centric approach.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
• Typically, 12+ years of experience.
• Required experience in insurance accounting.
• Strong background in insurance, financial services, or investment management.
• Experience leading suspense cleanup, reconciliation enhancement, aging reduction, exposure management, or similar operational accounting remediation initiatives.
• Demonstrated management and leadership experience.
• Extensive knowledge of relevant accounting and business domains.
• Proficient in oral and written communication to diverse audiences.
• Capability to lead a large workforce to achieve business objectives.
• Ability to foresee future needs and challenges.
• Strong organizational, prioritization, and project management abilities.
• Proficient in managing competing cleanup, control, and operational improvement priorities.
• Effective judgment and decision-making skills.
• CPA or advanced degree is preferred.
