Director, Accounting

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Guide the accounting team through the monthly closing process across nine entities and various currencies, ensuring precision, promptness, and ongoing enhancement.

• Take ownership of the close checklist and reconciliation workflows, utilizing close management tools to uphold visibility and responsibility.

• Collaborate with FP&A on both pre- and post-close review sessions, which include revenue and variance analysis.

• Manage intercompany eliminations while ensuring coherence across entities, particularly in structures involving transfer pricing and IP royalty agreements.

• Supervise AP workflows, encompassing vendor invoice processing, purchase order approvals, and payments to both domestic and international contractors.

• Coordinate the submission of international payroll and commission payments with third-party payroll providers.

• Act as a primary contact for day-to-day banking operations, lender reporting, and investor reporting obligations.

• Oversee the complete annual audit process, including management of the PBC list, communication with auditors, and resolution of technical accounting issues such as revenue recognition per ASC 606, impairment, intangible amortization, deferred revenue, and foreign currency matters.

• Manage multi-entity compliance and intercompany reconciliations, engaging with external advisors such as auditors and legal counsel as necessary.

• Spearhead the development of transaction-level GL infrastructure to enhance financial reporting quality and readiness for due diligence, while maintaining data integrity across a high volume of transactions and multiple entities.

• Promote process documentation and internal controls with an emphasis on creating audit-ready infrastructure capable of enduring rigorous external evaluations.

• Collaborate with the VP Controller and cross-functional partners on system implementations and process improvement efforts, leveraging experience in navigating mid-stream system alterations and integrations.

• Manage and mentor 1–2 accountants as an active player-coach — engaging in the work alongside the team rather than merely reviewing it.

• Exhibit a proactive, results-oriented attitude that establishes the team's tone.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably with a combination of public accounting and a background in the SaaS or tech industry.

• CPA certification is mandatory.

• Strong technical accounting expertise under US GAAP, particularly in ASC 606 revenue recognition, multi-currency consolidations, intercompany accounting, and deferred revenue.

• Experience in a PE-backed environment and comfort in engaging with external auditors, lenders, and investors.

• NetSuite experience is preferred; familiarity with close management, reconciliation, or billing tools is an advantage.

• Advanced Excel proficiency, including the capability to create and maintain complex models and reconciliations.

• A hands-on, proactive approach — you identify what needs to be accomplished and take initiative to complete it.
