Development Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Identify, initiate, and pursue new development opportunities, including greenfield, early, and mid-stage acquisitions.

• Lead partnerships with Indigenous communities and support ongoing relationship-building activities.

• Collaborate with development colleagues and internal project specialists while overseeing external consultants to facilitate all aspects of project development, such as land acquisition, resource analysis, environmental studies, permitting, outreach, interconnection and transmission, regulatory matters, legal issues, engineering and design, as well as financial modeling.

• Maintain and coordinate all relevant development activities and timelines.

• Assess, analyze, and provide recommendations to management regarding project viability and economics.

• Manage project expenditures, and develop, oversee, and maintain project budgets.

• Prepare necessary documentation to present projects to senior management for approval.

• Report on project development status to management through both oral and written reports, and participate in weekly management meetings and calls.

• Oversee the transition to the Construction team and assist Engineering and Construction teams throughout the construction phase.

• Support Finance and Legal departments during interactions with third parties (such as tax equity, construction financing, etc.) to ensure favorable transaction terms.

• Lead or assist in the negotiation of commercial agreements aimed at maximizing value creation.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in developing utility-scale wind, hydro, and/or solar projects.

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or a related field.

• Exceptional communication and presentation skills.

• Experience with local government processes and structures.

• Ability to convey complex topics in a straightforward and concise manner.

• Should possess a solid understanding of technical aspects and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

• Highly detail-oriented, organized, and consistent.

• Capable of managing multiple projects concurrently and meeting tight deadlines.

• Experience in developing projects within Ontario markets.

• Experience working with Indigenous groups or partners is an asset.

• Background in partnership management and contract negotiations.

• Proven experience in coordinating studies and project development activities with cross-functional teams, peers, and external consultants to ensure projects stay on schedule.

• Knowledge and experience with key project contracts, including Power Purchase Agreements, Generator Interconnection Agreements, Turbine and Equipment Supply Agreements, Partnership and Purchase and Sale Agreements, and Operations & Maintenance Agreements is beneficial.

• Demonstrated success in driving development processes and procedures (real estate, environmental, permitting, interconnection and transmission, finance, and outreach), overseeing development timelines, and managing stakeholders involved in successful project development.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

• Experience with GIS software.

• Bilingualism in French and English (both written and spoken) is an asset.
