This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of the design phase for all ongoing ThermalWorks projects, from pre-contract award through the issuance of construction documents, managing milestones, controlling scope, tracking changes, and concluding with L5 commissioning.
• Set and maintain design phase gates, deliverables, and review checkpoints; ensure that each package adheres to ThermalWorks' technical standards and fulfills customer requirements prior to release.
• Act as the primary escalation point for design-related concerns raised by Project Managers, Commissioning teams, field personnel, and clients; ensure resolution of design and construction coordination challenges.
• Collaborate with the Director of Project Management to incorporate design status into the live Deployment Dashboard, delivering accurate and up-to-date visibility of each project's design progress.
• Manage relationships with ThermalWorks' external design consultant partners and construction teams to facilitate the effective, precise, and complete resolution of all design-related issues.
• Oversee the submittal process, guaranteeing the timely submission of all technical deliverables.
• Utilize AI to develop technical tools and systems that enhance and streamline all design workflows.
• Reduce rework, changes, design inquiries, and construction coordination volume through root-cause analysis and targeted process improvements.
• Collaborate with the Quality Team, utilizing the Quality Management System (QMS) to create a feedback loop from field execution, commissioning, service, and operations back into design.
• Work closely with Commissioning/Startup and Quality within the Delivery function to ensure that design packages effectively prepare downstream phases for success.
• Coordinate with Estimating regarding design assumptions in proposals; identify deviations early on.
• Represent ThermalWorks design in customer-facing technical discussions, including design reviews, submittal negotiations, and issue resolution.
• A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Over 10 years of experience in design or design management for mission-critical, industrial, or mechanical/electrical infrastructure projects.
• At least 5 years of experience leading design teams and coordination; direct management of engineers or drafters is an advantage.
• A PE license (Mechanical or Electrical) or an architectural degree is preferred.
• Direct experience with data center cooling infrastructure, thermal management, or waterless/dry cooling technologies is preferred.
• Experience in scaling a design function during a period of rapid portfolio growth is preferred.
• Familiarity with SharePoint-based project controls, Power BI dashboards, AI tools, and Microsoft 365 collaboration tools is preferred.
• International work experience is preferred.
• Experience working within a unified Delivery, Deployment, or Project Execution function that integrates Design with Commissioning and Quality is preferred.
