📋 Description

• Oversee daily coverage, including breaking news, of the NFL in partnership with the NFL editor and other leaders, ensuring a sense of urgency that extends beyond basic facts and initial headlines to highlight the news's impact and significance for the audience.

• Play a crucial role in integrating enterprise reporting into our daily offerings, assigning tasks with a focus on audience engagement and guiding direct reports and other team members through the ideation and reporting process.

• Employ SEO, analytics, and optimization strategies to enhance readership and engagement.

• Routinely engage reporters in conversations regarding metrics and best practices for story optimization, aiding them in recognizing their contribution to audience growth.

• Work collaboratively with video, podcast, social media, graphics, and other teams as necessary to enhance, supplement, and elevate NFL content, as well as with other editors and reporters to craft more comprehensive stories.

• Assist in daily and event planning through detailed documentation that promotes broad understanding and execution, leveraging the extensive reach of the USA TODAY newsroom and network to provide coverage to millions of readers.

• Uphold USA TODAY Co.'s esteemed standards of journalistic integrity and ethical reporting.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.

• At least eight years of journalism management experience, with a strong track record in leading sports content teams.

• Outstanding news judgment combined with excellent editing and writing abilities.

• Capability to work during nights, weekends, and high-demand news cycles.

• Willingness to support the USA TODAY Sports Network team as needed during major sporting events.

• Expertise in digital publishing, metrics, and SEO best practices.

• A proactive learner, eager to explore new tools and techniques to enhance our workflows and outputs.
