Database Engineer – DBRE, Senior DBA

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of database reliability metrics, including availability, performance, and recoverability.

• Develop and implement data-loss recovery strategies, including restore workflows, validation processes, and execution plans.

• Oversee the lifecycle management of the database fleet, focusing on versions, patching, sizing, and standards.

• Enhance alerting, observability, incident response, and root cause analysis (RCA).

• Establish secure-by-default database practices emphasizing least privilege, encryption, and auditability.

• Create self-service database functionalities to alleviate support demands.

• Collaborate daily with internal DBAs to exemplify Database Reliability Engineering (DBRE) practices through observational learning.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in DBA or DBRE positions.

• Extensive hands-on expertise with AWS RDS and Aurora.

• Strong proficiency in Postgres and/or MySQL.

• Demonstrated ability to execute restores and recovery under pressure.

• Experience working within agile teams, including standups, sprints, and shared backlogs.

• An automation-first approach to problem-solving.

• Preferred: Familiarity with Kubernetes/EKS.

• Experience in compliance-intensive environments.

• Understanding of cost-sensitive database sizing strategies.
