This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Assist in designing, supporting, and optimizing the data systems that facilitate essential environmental research for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
• Ensure efficient storage, management, and delivery of large volumes of environmental data across contemporary cloud and hybrid environments.
• Collaborate closely with federal stakeholders and technical teams to create scalable solutions that enhance data orchestration, automation, and operational reliability.
• Oversee PostgreSQL databases, optimize SQL-based workflows, and support Python-driven automation and CI/CD processes that maintain smooth operation of data systems.
• Ensure data integrity, enhance system performance, and facilitate the continuous flow of mission-critical information across research and operational platforms.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or at least 4 years of relevant experience along with active IT certifications, or at least 8 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
• Proven experience in writing efficient SQL, managing PostgreSQL databases, and handling large datasets to guarantee accurate and high-performance data processing.
• Proficient in Python for automating data workflows and enhancing data management efficiency.
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices, including automating database provisioning and utilizing GitLab or GitHub for version control and deployment workflows.
• Comfortable using AWS services such as EC2, S3, and RDS for deploying, managing, and scaling cloud-based applications and databases.
