Database Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama.

📋 Description

• Install, configure, administer, patch, upgrade, and manage the lifecycle of Oracle database environments.

• Monitor database performance, availability, and health, proactively identifying and addressing performance bottlenecks and operational challenges.

• Enhance database performance through tuning, indexing strategies, query optimization, and capacity planning.

• Implement and uphold database security measures, including user access management, encryption, auditing, and adherence to DoD cybersecurity standards.

• Develop, maintain, and consistently validate comprehensive backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures to fulfill Government Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) requirements.

• Design, implement, and manage database schema modifications using version-controlled migration scripts integrated with CI/CD pipelines.

• Ensure database deployment scripts are automated, repeatable, error-free, and environment agnostic.

• Maintain configuration management documentation and version control for all database settings and configurations.

• Support end-to-end traceability of database requirements throughout implementation, testing, and documentation phases.

• Collaborate with software development teams to design efficient database structures and assist application modernization efforts.

• Aid ETL processes, data integration activities, and the upkeep of database metadata and data dictionary documentation.

• Engage in troubleshooting production issues and implementing continuous enhancements to database operations.

• Ensure adherence to organizational standards for security, quality, documentation, and configuration management.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.

• A minimum of 5 years of Oracle Database Administration experience in enterprise environments.

• Extensive experience in installing, configuring, patching, upgrading, and administering Oracle databases.

• Experience in developing and managing version-controlled database migration scripts integrated with CI/CD pipelines.

• Strong expertise in Oracle database performance tuning, optimization, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

• Experience in implementing database security hardening, encryption, auditing, and ensuring compliance with Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG).

• Experience in designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining enterprise backup and recovery strategies.

• Experience supporting Oracle databases hosted in cloud environments, including AWS.

• Familiarity with ETL processes, database integration, and data dictionary documentation.

• Experience working within Agile software development and DevSecOps frameworks.

• Exceptional analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.

• Active Secret Security Clearance.

• **Preferred Qualifications**

• Experience supporting U.S. Air Force or other Department of Defense software programs.

• Experience with AWS database services and cloud-native database architectures.

• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automated database deployments.

• Experience in supporting high-availability and disaster recovery database architectures.

• Knowledge of Git, GitLab CI/CD, and automated deployment pipelines.

• Experience with database monitoring and performance management tools.

• Familiarity with RMF accreditation processes and DoD cybersecurity policies.
