Database Administrator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Malaysia.

📋 Description

• Install, configure, and manage SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and various other database engines either on-premise or in the cloud.

• Conduct database health assessments, maintenance, patching, and upgrades.

• Oversee backup and recovery strategies to ensure compliance with RPO/RTO standards.

• Monitor database performance metrics, including CPU, memory, I/O, PLE, slow queries, locking, and indexing.

• Execute query optimization, develop indexing strategies, and perform database tuning.

• Analyze slow-running queries, performance bottlenecks, and lengthy processes.

• Enhance database schemas, execution plans, and overall resource utilization.

• Manage and support high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions such as SQL Server AlwaysOn, replication, log shipping, and MySQL InnoDB Cluster.

• Ensure the implementation of failover, redundancy, and disaster recovery plans.

• Enforce database access controls, ensuring least privilege and role-based permissions.

• Perform security audits, patching, and address vulnerabilities.

• Develop automation for routine DBA functions and maintain monitoring alerts, jobs, and automated maintenance tasks.

• Troubleshoot production issues, service interruptions, and performance incidents.

• Provide root cause analysis and actionable recommendations to avoid future occurrences.

• Participate in on-call rotation as necessary.

• Collaborate with SRE, DevOps, developers, and product teams.

• Assist with deployments, data patch requests, schema migrations, and release activities.

• Maintain database standards, architecture diagrams, SOPs, and knowledge transfer materials.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience with SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL administration.

• Strong understanding of database internals, query execution plans, indexing strategies, transaction management, and replication and HA/DR architectures.

• Familiarity with both Linux and Windows Server environments.

• Excellent analytical and troubleshooting capabilities.

• Proficient communication and documentation skills.

• Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.

• 5–10 years of experience in a similar DBA position.

• Experience in supporting production, staging, and development database environments.

• Familiarity with automation using PowerShell, Python, or similar languages.

• Background in supporting large-scale, mission-critical systems.

• Experience with cloud database platforms is advantageous.

• Knowledge of monitoring tools such as SolarWinds DPA, PMM, pgAdmin, Grafana, and CloudWatch.

• Exposure to NoSQL databases is a plus.

• Understanding of SSIS, SSRS, or SSAS.

• Familiarity with DevOps processes such as CI/CD, Git, and Jenkins is a plus.
