Data Scientist

Posted May 2

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Transform unclear customer inquiries into precisely defined data science projects involving panel data, time series, and causal inference.

• Extract features from extensive alternative-data panels (transaction-level, invoice-level, web-scraped) utilizing Spark.

• Develop, validate, and interpret causal and predictive models that connect alternative-data signals to financial results, including revenue, earnings surprises, and KPI changes.

• Create technical white papers and customer analyses for institutional investors and Fortune 500 audiences, incorporating figures, equations, and narrative context for advanced readers.

• Leverage LLM coding assistants and agents as key collaborators: accelerate prototyping, produce higher-quality code, audit your work, and deliver outputs within tight timelines.

• Develop internal LLM-driven tools (agents, evaluation harnesses, retrieval pipelines) for the wider organization.

• Collaborate with data engineering, product, and revenue teams to bridge the gap between signal creation and customer-facing products.

• Establish technical standards for the team: PEP 8, type hints, vectorized operations, reproducible notebooks, robust methodology, and citation integrity.

⛳️ Requirements

• You have successfully delivered multiple end-to-end data science projects and can demonstrate measurable customer or business impact.

• Your statistical knowledge is deep and substantial. You can defend your choice of causal-inference methods thoroughly under technical scrutiny.

• You write Python code that reflects the quality of a senior engineer: clear naming conventions, type hints, vectorized code, and no premature abstractions.

• You regularly utilize LLM coding assistants and can provide specific examples where they enhanced your productivity without sacrificing quality, as well as instances when you chose to override them.

• Writing is a core competency for you, not just a secondary interest. You communicate as meticulously in writing as you do in coding.

• You take initiative without needing prompts: you identify the right questions, provide answers, and articulate them clearly.

• Acknowledging your knowledge gaps is as important to you as having confidence in what you do know.

• You engage with the literature, cite references, and base your work on established methods rather than reinventing the wheel.

🏝️ Benefits

• We genuinely care about your personal life. We provide flexible work hours, flexible vacation policies, a generous 401K match, parental leave, team events, wellness budgets, learning reimbursements, and more!

• Your advancement at YipitData is based on the impact you create, rather than on tenure, unnecessary visibility, or office politics. Everyone at YipitData is encouraged to learn, grow, and refine their skills in an environment that values ownership, respect, and trust.
