This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop and assess AI/ML solution strategies specifically aimed at enhancing VA healthcare operations.
• Evaluate technical feasibility, performance metrics, and alignment with mission goals.
• Perform thorough evaluations of current and proposed AI/ML models, focusing on accuracy, bias, fairness, and interpretability.
• Assist in the creation and execution of AI governance frameworks, policies, and best practices.
• Work collaboratively with VA stakeholders, program managers, and subject matter experts to establish AI/ML problem definitions and solution roadmaps.
• Record technical insights, model evaluation outcomes, and strategic recommendations for both technical and executive audiences.
• Keep abreast of emerging AI/ML trends, tools, and federal policy changes.
• Offer recommendations to ensure that VA's AI strategy remains current, compliant, and competitive.
• Proven experience in designing and evaluating AI/ML solutions within production or enterprise settings.
• Strong portfolio showcasing applied machine learning projects throughout the complete model development lifecycle.
• Capability to obtain and maintain access to the VA network and a Position of Public Trust designation as needed.
• Ability to meet VA background investigation criteria prior to onboarding.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
• Visa sponsorship is not available.
• Proficiency in AI/ML frameworks and tools such as Python, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.
• Experience handling both structured and unstructured healthcare datasets, including EHR or claims data.
• Prior experience within a federal agency or healthcare organization is preferred.
• Familiarity with VA systems, federal AI policies, or HHS/CMS data environments is advantageous.
• Experience in AI/ML governance, responsible AI frameworks, or model risk management is desirable.
• Knowledge of HL7 FHIR, ICD-10 coding, or Veterans health records systems is preferred.
• Understanding of the NIST AI Risk Management Framework or related standards is desired.
• Experience in presenting AI/ML findings to non-technical senior leadership or federal program offices is preferred.
• Background in NLP, computer vision, or predictive analytics as applied to healthcare is desired.
