📋 Description

• Oversee, organize, and facilitate the analysis of multi-source datasets gathered from SEFSC surveys, encompassing acoustic, video, environmental DNA, multibeam, and aerial imagery data.

• Collaborate with project partners to guarantee that data collection and sensor configurations are aligned with downstream analytical and AI/ML applications.

• Stay informed about various data types and provide assistance with field data collection activities as necessary.

• Systematically organize and document datasets and metadata in accordance with established data management protocols.

• Conduct QA/QC on incoming datasets and assess their suitability for integration into advanced analytical workflows.

• Facilitate data curation and storage, including the use of cloud-based data repositories.

• Aid in the preparation and archiving of datasets in compliance with government data standards.

• Develop, test, and assess analytical workflows and models aimed at enhancing data processing efficiency.

• Provide support for the annotation of datasets and the creation of machine learning models, including the training and validation of classifiers and detection systems.

• Produce data products that are appropriate for use by downstream scientific stakeholders (e.g., stock assessment scientists).

• Remain aware of SEFSC analytical needs and existing workflows to align data science initiatives with mission priorities.

• Engage in interdisciplinary working groups and collaborative research endeavors.

• Assist in proposal development, manuscript review, and scientific reporting activities.

• Participate in outreach and stakeholder engagement initiatives as necessary.

• Prepare for and attend scientific meetings, workshops, and symposia.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Master’s degree in data science, computer science, marine biology, or a related field, OR a Bachelor’s degree accompanied by over 1 year of relevant research experience.

• Proven experience in applying machine learning, statistical analysis, or advanced analytical techniques.

• Proficient in programming languages such as Python or R.

• Experience managing large datasets and data management workflows.

• Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Platform or similar).

• Experience with relational databases.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

• Capability to translate complex datasets into actionable scientific products.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Skill in managing multiple datasets and analytical workflows concurrently.

• Effective communication of technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
