This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with internal staff to facilitate the creation and upkeep of a robust conservation database.

• Oversee the management and quality assurance of ecological data.

• Assist in reporting, visualization, and analytical requirements for the Western Bat Program at Wildlife Conservation Society Canada.

• Drive the completion and operational implementation of the Bat Conservation Database.

• Develop reliable data pipelines and standards for enduring ecological datasets.

• Aid in ongoing database maintenance, data governance, and analytical processes.

• Strengthen program capabilities by producing analytical reports.

• Conduct QAQC testing on existing datasets.

• Provide training and support to database users.

• Convert business requirements into technical specifications.

• Clean, standardize, and validate long-term spatial ecological datasets.

• Oversee data entry and quality assurance across Excel and database systems.

• Monitor database performance and resolve system issues.

• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to deliver data solutions.

• Assist in the creation of reports and dashboards.

• Perform statistical and spatial analyses on historical data.


⛳️ Requirements

• Must be 30 years of age or younger at the commencement of the placement.

• Should be Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents, or Protected Persons as defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

• Not currently a student or enrolled in any academic program.

• Legally entitled to work in Canada; adherence to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations is required.

• Not an existing or former employee of the employer.

• Possess a Bachelor's degree, Graduate degree, or College diploma in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

• Strong comprehension of relational databases and SQL.

• Proficient in programming languages (e.g., Python, R).

• Experienced with GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).

• 1-2 years of relevant experience in a similar role.

• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.

• Familiar with spatial biological datasets.

• Exceptional attention to detail.

• Strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Capability to work independently and as part of a small team.

• Excellent problem-solving abilities, detail-oriented, and resourceful.

• A genuine passion for the conservation of nature and wildlife.
