Data Governance Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.

• Design and execute a Data Governance framework and methodologies, including strategy, approach, timelines, objectives, and success criteria.

• Evaluate the current state of data integrity, security, privacy, and data retention.

• Contribute to the strategic roadmap for the data governance framework and collaborate with key stakeholders throughout the design and implementation stages.

• Identify organizational components within the Data Governance Framework, such as a governing body/council made up of data owners, data stewards, and data architects to enhance operational efficiency and manage data throughout its lifecycle.

• Create and uphold metadata standards, business glossaries, data dictionaries, and enterprise data catalogs.

• Assist in data asset inventory, classification, discoverability, and reuse initiatives.

• Promote trusted data sharing across organizations while ensuring proper security and access controls.

• Lead data stewardship workgroups, governance councils, and stakeholder engagement efforts.

• Perform data management and governance maturity assessments and develop improvement roadmaps.

• Formulate governance charters, stewardship operating procedures, governance metrics, and decision-rights frameworks.

• Offer guidance on governance considerations supporting AI, Machine Learning, advanced analytics, and Digital Engineering projects.

• Collaborate with domain experts to ensure that data platforms meet privacy, security, and compliance requirements.

• Work together with EA, IT, and Data Architects to provide requirements for enabling technologies that support data governance processes, data standards, and data quality and management.

• Stay updated on new and emerging best practices in the data governance industry.

• Engage in strategic planning and tactical decision-making.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited institution is required.

• Over 8 years of experience in the data industry.

• At least 4 years of experience within a formal Data Governance program.

• Experience with modern data governance, metadata management, and data catalog tools such as Collibra, Informatica DG, Alation, Erwin Data Intelligence, or similar technologies.

• Proven experience in implementing and operationalizing enterprise Data Governance programs from strategy to execution.

• Strong understanding of Data Management and Governance concepts.

• Experience in mentoring and coaching Data Governance Analysts and Data Stewards.

• Background in leading data stewardship workgroups and teams in data management and governance activities.

• Familiarity with metadata management, business glossary development, data lineage, and enterprise data cataloging.

• Experience in conducting data maturity assessments and formulating strategic improvement plans.

• Knowledge of DoD Data Strategy, Digital Transformation initiatives, and Data-Centric modernization efforts.

• Understanding of governance considerations for Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and advanced analytics environments.

• Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with stakeholders at various levels.

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; technical writing skills are a plus.

• Strong presentation skills.

• Experience in collaborating with a diverse team of individuals.

• Quick learner; adaptable; process-oriented; exceptionally organized and proactive.

• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

• Strong critical listening and thinking skills.

• US Citizenship and the capability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.
