Data Engineer – Tax Care

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.

📋 Description

• Design, construct, and uphold data pipelines that support XTB's accounting and tax systems.

• Transition the existing data platform to Databricks, which includes rewriting legacy MS SQL Server stored procedures into Spark/Databricks SQL.

• Develop and manage a Python data service that provides data through a REST API and web UI.

• Work with raw data and create integration methods for the data platform.

• Establish CI/CD pipelines for data engineering solutions.

• Create and sustain Infrastructure as Code solutions.

• Connect the data platform with other systems and applications.

• Engage in architectural decision-making and establish engineering standards.

• Perform code reviews, document solutions, and disseminate knowledge among team members.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a related software engineering position.

• Proficient in Python — capable of writing clean, testable production code, including backend services (FastAPI / Flask or similar) that expose REST APIs.

• Advanced SQL skills and practical experience with T-SQL / MS SQL Server, including the ability to read and understand legacy stored procedures.

• Hands-on experience with Apache Spark (PySpark).

• Familiarity with dbt — models, tests, macros, and layered warehouse design.

• Strong comprehension of data warehouse design principles and data modeling.

• Practical understanding of ETL/ELT processes.

• Experience in analyzing existing legacy code to enhance it and migrate it to newer technologies.

• Awareness of data quality, monitoring, and pipeline reliability.

• Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow or Dagster.

• Knowledge of principles related to CI/CD pipeline creation and maintenance.

• Understanding of REST standards for system integration.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.

• Willingness to work under a strict monthly accounting close deadline.

• Effective communication skills and the capacity to collaborate with engineers and finance/accounting stakeholders.
