Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kenya.

📋 Description

• Design, construct, and oversee BigQuery datamarts and analytical tables for Business Intelligence (BI) reporting.

• Create scalable data models, which include star schema, snowflake, and denormalized structures.

• Enhance query performance and storage efficiency within cloud-based data warehouses.

• Work in collaboration with BI teams to ensure datasets are aligned with semantic models and dashboards.

• Develop and maintain data pipelines for the ingestion, transformation, and loading of data into analytics environments.

• Execute transformation workflows utilizing SQL or frameworks like dbt.

• Guarantee data quality, validation, and consistency across various datasets.

• Uphold data standards, naming conventions, and thorough documentation.

• Enforce governance practices, including schema management and version control.

• Monitor and address pipeline failures and inconsistencies in data.

• Provide optimized datasets that reduce the need for extensive transformations within BI tools.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 3 years of experience in Data Engineering or Analytics Engineering.

• Proficient SQL skills for analytical tasks.

• Experience with cloud data warehouse solutions such as BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, Snowflake, or comparable platforms.

• Demonstrated ability in designing star-schema or dimensional data models.

• Proven experience in creating analytics-ready datamarts.

• Familiarity with dbt or other data-transformation frameworks.

• Understanding of Git-based workflows and CI/CD processes for data pipelines.

• Experience with BI tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Power BI.

• Background in working with retail or multi-location data environments.
