Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nigeria, +2 more countries.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain scalable and dependable data pipelines for analytics, machine learning models, and business reporting.

• Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to ensure that data is accessible, clean, and optimized for downstream applications.

• Implement processes for data quality checks, monitoring, and validation.

• Create efficient ETL/ELT workflows and integrate databases, APIs, and third-party tools into centralized data lakes or warehouses.

• Support cloud-based infrastructures for data storage and retrieval.

• Monitor, troubleshoot, and enhance existing pipelines for large-scale, real-time data flows.

• Apply best practices for query optimization and cost-effective storage solutions.

• Collaborate with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to gather requirements.

• Document workflows, schemas, and processes while ensuring reliability, governance, and security.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficiency in Python and SQL for data engineering tasks.

• Strong understanding of ETL/ELT processes, data warehousing, and data modeling.

• Practical experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and data storage solutions (BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake, etc.).

• Familiarity with data orchestration tools; experience with Airflow and Airbyte is essential.

• Experience with containerization and deployment tools (Docker, Kubernetes) is advantageous.

• Knowledge of data governance, security, and best practices for managing sensitive data.

• Familiarity with Git and GitHub.

• Proficiency in Dataform is required.

• Strong ability to elicit requirements from cross-functional stakeholders and translate them into actionable data engineering tasks.

• Ideally, 4 years of overall experience.

• At least 2 years in data engineering, building and maintaining data pipelines.

• Minimum of 2 years of SQL and Python development in production settings.

• Experience in fast-paced startup environments is a plus.

• Exposure to real-time data processing frameworks (Kafka, Spark, Flink) is a plus.
