Data Engineer

📋 Description

• Act as a subject-matter expert in database architecture and performance.

• Assist engineers in navigating complex or uncertain technical challenges.

• Establish technical strategies for scalable data solutions in collaboration with Product, Engineering, and Site Reliability teams.

• Lead cross-functional projects from conception to implementation.

• Recognize and manage upstream and downstream effects.

• Mentor engineers and elevate the technical standards within the team.

• Influence the adoption of Agile, CI/CD, and DevOps methodologies.

• Assess code and database modifications for systemic risks and performance issues.

• Spearhead initiatives to minimize technical debt.

• Analyze emerging technologies and provide guidance on technology integration.

• Interpret database health and performance metrics from tools like Splunk, Datadog, and Grafana.

• Proactively identify and mitigate risks prior to incidents arising.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive, in-depth experience with database systems.

• Profound knowledge in designing logical and physical data models, schema design, and data relationships.

• Proven ability to optimize queries and indexes while setting database performance benchmarks.

• Strong understanding of data security practices, including encryption, access controls, and auditing.

• Experience in troubleshooting intricate issues within high-availability systems.

• Capability to plan for data expansion and scale infrastructure accordingly.

• Ability to influence colleagues and cross-functional partners effectively.

• Solid command of contemporary development practices and Agile methodologies.

• Proficient in articulating technical direction, trade-offs, and risks clearly.

• Comfortable working with evolving and unclear requirements.

• Proactive in resolving cross-team challenges.

• 7+ years of practical experience with Microsoft SQL Server in a production environment.

• Expertise in schema and data model design, normalization, partitioning, and indexing strategies for OLTP workloads.

• Advanced skills in performance tuning, T-SQL, stored procedure optimization, execution plan analysis, and large-scale query tuning.

• Experience in managing and troubleshooting SQL Server databases at terabyte scale, including tables with billions of rows and sustained throughput exceeding 100,000 transactions per second.

• Ability to diagnose and address production capacity and contention issues, such as lock/latch contention, TempDB performance, and transaction management.

• Experience in designing for both horizontal and vertical scalability.

• Familiarity with NoSQL technologies like MongoDB, Cassandra, or DynamoDB is advantageous.

• Experience with cloud database platforms such as AWS RDS/Aurora or MongoDB Atlas is a plus.
