Data Center Physical Security Systems Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Develop and create the physical security technology architecture strategy tailored for AI data center environments, ensuring scalable and robust security system designs that align with OpenAI's infrastructure risk profile.

• Establish enterprise architecture standards and technical frameworks for physical security capabilities, which include access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, identity-based access, integrated monitoring, and emerging security technologies.

• Oversee the architecture and governance of physical security systems and their supporting platforms.

• Set security standards and requirements across various infrastructure deployment models.

• Create guidelines for secure deployment, operational resilience, maintenance, and lifecycle management of security technologies.

• Collaborate with Security Operations, Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, Compliance, Legal, Procurement, and external partners to guarantee that physical security systems are integrated, operationally efficient, and capable of fulfilling enterprise risk management goals.

• Deliver technical leadership, design governance, and continual enhancement through architecture reviews, technology assessments, deployment supervision, and the advancement of standards, reference architectures, and best practices across global AI infrastructure implementations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in physical security technology, security engineering, systems engineering, OT / ICS security, or related cyber-physical infrastructure areas, with the ability to transform ambiguous challenges into functional technical systems.

• Over 15 years of experience in physical security systems architecture, infrastructure security engineering, or security technology design.

• Proven experience in building or strengthening systems within hyperscale infrastructure, critical infrastructure, large-scale data centers, or intricate cyber-physical environments.

• Experience in designing physical security systems across multi-site or global infrastructure settings.

• Background in transitioning from architecture to implementation: prototyping, integrating, commissioning, validating, and resolving practical field challenges.

• Experience collaborating with engineering, construction, networking, cybersecurity, SOC/GSOC, compliance, procurement, and provider teams.

• Strong discernment regarding when direct execution is necessary versus when a scalable partner or platform model is the appropriate solution.

• Ability to effectively translate complex architectural decisions into operational security outcomes.

• Strong experience with several of the following:

• - Certification in enterprise access control systems

• - Certification in video management systems and CCTV analytics

• - Identity-driven access management

• - Integrated security monitoring

• - Physical security infrastructure management

• - CPP, PMP, CSPM, CompTIA Security+, CISSP, and PMP certifications are preferred but not mandatory.
