Crisis Support Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kansas.

📋 Description

• Under the guidance of a Crisis Communications Program Manager, Crisis Support Specialists (CSS) deliver crisis and suicide intervention, brief supportive counseling, care coordination, and information and referral services via phone and text/chat for individuals, families, and agencies seeking help.

• Respond to calls, chats, and texts (988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and local crisis lines) with compassion and professionalism, employing a trauma-sensitive approach.

• Work collaboratively with individuals in crisis, their family members, and relevant treatment team members (both internal and external) to facilitate treatment and recovery.

• Provide person-centered services focused on enhancing skills to cope with and manage behavioral health symptoms, emphasizing recovery and resilience.

• Encourage the use of natural supports and community resources to bolster recovery and resilience.

• Evaluate strengths, identify needs and barriers, and address challenges related to an individual's crisis and short-term objectives.

• Offer supportive services that include education, counseling, problem-solving, role modeling, referral, advocacy, and crisis intervention.

• Coordinate and facilitate appropriate referrals to community services, encompassing behavioral health and substance use services.

• Ensure compliance with all procedures and protocols pertinent to the specific service queue (text/chat, crisis calls, or care coordination).

• Stay prepared to respond swiftly and professionally to service requests throughout scheduled shifts.

• Collaborate with Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs), hospitals, and other providers to meet the needs of individuals served.

• Conduct follow-up communications (calls, texts, or chats) to provide postvention support following the initial service contact.

• Complete all necessary documentation accurately and promptly.

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all agency and program trainings, fulfilling them as required.

• Adapt to changing work priorities and excel in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism and a positive demeanor.

• Uphold confidentiality and privacy in accordance with Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.

• Foster healthy relationships, maintain professional boundaries, adhere to ethical practices, and exhibit kindness both in the workplace and as a public representative of the organization.

• Exhibit the ability to work effectively within a team as well as independently when necessary.

• Carry out any additional duties as assigned to support the organization's mission and objectives.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may also be considered.

• A minimum of two (2) years of experience providing person-centered support services.

• Proficient in computer use and prior experience leveraging technology independently in a professional environment.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational capabilities, and interpersonal skills, particularly in working with diverse populations.

• Demonstrates exceptional customer service skills.

• Ability to quickly learn and navigate new technologies, including software applications and phone systems.

• Demonstrates the capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively with others.

• Capable of maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, aligned with HealthSource’s mission.

• Exhibits a positive and proactive attitude toward navigating change and overcoming challenges in a dynamic work environment.

• Ability to prepare and submit detailed, accurate reports to the Department of Child and Families (DCF) in accordance with established guidelines and timelines.

• Must successfully pass all required background checks.
