Costs Lawyer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Manage a daily caseload of complex paying party claims, each valued at a minimum of £100,000.

• Prepare points of dispute and offer legal guidance on probable assessed outcomes concerning intricate paying party claims.

• Assist the Legal Director of the complex (paying party) team in the operation and delivery of the complex (paying party) service.

• Serve as a primary contact for clients, exhibiting a level of knowledge and skill reflective of your experience.

• Ensure full compliance with client SLAs and adhere to DAC Beachcroft's internal protocols.

• Take charge of quality control and benchmark compliance for your own caseload, ensuring accuracy and punctuality in management reporting and information.

• Maintain strict and continuous adherence to benchmark standards in all undertaken work.

• Exhibit a high standard of financial management regarding your own files.

• Consistently meet and apply individual targets for chargeable time, financial performance, realization rates, settlement rates, and average claim expenditure.

• Achieve a minimum annual target of 1,440 chargeable hours based on a full-time lawyer's schedule.

• Fully comply with DAC Beachcroft’s billing and credit control protocols and demonstrate a high level of financial management concerning your own files.

• Contribute to marketing and business development efforts within the team, such as participating in marketing events and client training.

• Stay informed about the firm's strategies and plans.

• Enhance and develop technical knowledge by attending training sessions and reviewing relevant publications.

• Handle confidential information in accordance with the firm's data security protocol.

⛳️ Requirements

• Ideally, possess ten years of experience in managing costs from litigation, including drafting points of dispute and all aspects of challenging costs. Candidates with fewer than ten years but who can demonstrate a satisfactory level of competency are also encouraged to apply.

• Preferable to have experience in demonstrating technical leadership.

• Advocacy experience is beneficial, although not a requirement.

• Ability to show a history of pursuing strategic points and engaging with clients with a strong customer service focus is ideal.

• Excellent opportunity for a qualified Costs Lawyer; however, applicants with extensive experience but who are not qualified will also be considered, including those with other qualifications relevant to costs disputes.

• A confident negotiator capable of communicating clearly and concisely in both verbal and written forms.

• Must demonstrate strong teamwork skills and be a flexible, self-motivated team player.

• Possess exceptional organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize and manage workload/tasks.

• Experience working in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment.

• Ability to adopt a commercial viewpoint on legal issues rather than just an academic perspective.

• Capable of producing work to a high standard, with keen attention to detail.
