This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.

📋 Description

• Draft, evaluate, and negotiate various commercial and supplier agreements, which encompass hardware supply, software licensing, services, joint development, and partnership agreements, while also creating and maintaining playbooks, templates, and negotiation guidelines for the legal team.

• Design, execute, and uphold compliance programs and policies that address areas such as data privacy, safety, regulatory obligations, and corporate governance.

• Offer daily legal counsel to cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, business development, government affairs, marketing, and human resources.

• Provide guidance on regulatory issues concerning autonomous vehicle testing, deployment, and commercialization at the federal, state, and local levels.

• Assist in managing outside counsel and collaborate with external advisors on specialized matters such as litigation, intellectual property, and regulatory filings.

• Track and assess changing laws and regulations impacting autonomous vehicles, transportation, data privacy, and employment, and convey business implications to leadership.

• Create and present training programs focusing on legal compliance, contracting best practices, and risk management for business teams.

• Support corporate transactions, equity matters, and board-related activities as necessary.


⛳️ Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.

• 5–8 years of legal experience, blending law firm and in-house counsel experience (experience in a technology, automotive, or mobility company is highly preferred).

• Proven experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating intricate commercial and supplier agreements.

• Experience in developing or overseeing compliance programs, policies, or internal controls.

• Substantial expertise in at least one of the following areas: regulatory affairs, safety/product liability, data privacy (e.g., CCPA, CPRA, APPI, GDPR), or employment law.

• Strong business acumen with the capacity to weigh legal risks against operational goals in a dynamic environment.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex legal concepts for non-legal audiences.
