• Take full ownership of the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes from start to finish, including managing the general ledger (record-to-report and procure-to-pay).
• Prepare consolidated financial statements in compliance with US GAAP and SEC reporting standards.
• Act as the technical accounting expert on intricate transactions, revenue recognition, and necessary disclosures.
• Spearhead AI-driven close acceleration by implementing automated reconciliations, AI-assisted variance analysis, and intelligent exception handling to consistently shorten cycle times.
• Develop KPIs, SLAs, and reporting mechanisms that highlight the value of a high-performing, AI-enhanced accounting function.
• Oversee comprehensive commissions accounting in collaboration with Sales and Revenue Operations: including calculation, payout, accrual, and reconciliation.
• Utilize AI tools to automate commission calculations, identify anomalies, and minimize manual reconciliation efforts.
• Ensure compliance with ASC 606 / 340-40 regarding commission capitalization and amortization.
• Collaborate with the People team and RevOps on plan design modifications to maintain clean accounting downstream.
• Take the lead on all annual and interim audit projects, serving as the primary liaison for independent auditors.
• Employ AI-assisted audit preparation processes to organize documentation, flag discrepancies, and decrease audit cycle durations.
• Establish and uphold SOX-compliant internal controls across financial reporting.
• Document and govern accounting policies in accordance with US GAAP.
• Manage compliance for international entities across all operating jurisdictions.
• Oversee daily treasury operations, including liquidity, foreign exchange, and investment activities, in partnership with the CFO regarding strategy and policy.
• Take ownership of the financial system stack — ERP, OTC, P2P — and drive its evolution to facilitate scaling and public company readiness.
• Integrate AI-powered forecasting, scenario modeling, and cash management tools into the core finance technology stack.
• Assess and implement procurement automation tools designed to reduce manual processing and enhance spending visibility.
• Lead the AI transformation roadmap for the accounting function — identify opportunities, build the business case, and manage implementation across close, reporting, audit, commissions, and treasury.
• Define and enforce the AI governance framework for finance, including human-in-the-loop review standards, output validation protocols, and escalation criteria prior to AI-generated results influencing decisions or external reporting.
• Serve as Karbon's internal expert on AI in accounting — stay updated on the tool landscape, assess new capabilities, and present a clear perspective on what to adopt and when.
• Collaborate with the CFO and FP&A on AI-powered predictive modeling, cash forecasting, and management reporting suitable for board presentations.
• Set the benchmark for AI fluency within the accounting team — foster skills development, drive adoption, and cultivate a culture where automation is the norm rather than the exception.
• Be recognized as the technical accounting authority across the organization and a reliable partner to functional leaders.
• Work closely with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and long-term planning.
• Collaborate with the People team on headcount planning and compensation analysis.
• Mentor and develop the accounting team, focusing particularly on enhancing AI skills and fostering a mindset of continuous improvement.
• At least 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including a role as a Controller or equivalent in a SaaS or recurring revenue business.
• Extensive knowledge of US GAAP, SEC reporting, SOX, and internal controls.
• Proven experience in managing international, multi-entity accounting operations, including consolidations, intercompany eliminations, and local statutory compliance.
• Demonstrated success in implementing AI tools that significantly enhance accounting workflows — not just familiarity, but proven results with measurable impact.
• Strong judgment regarding AI output quality: capable of identifying when a model is inaccurate, when controls are inadequate, and when human review is essential.
• Authentic enthusiasm for AI and automation — you keep abreast of developments in the field, hold opinions on various tools, and consistently aim to create smarter processes.
• Proficient in financial modeling and experienced with NetSuite or a comparable ERP system, including implementation experience.
• Excellent communicator and business partner across various functions and at executive levels.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field; CPA certification is required.
