
Controller – Client Accounting Advisory Services

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Oversee the complete monthly closing process and the preparation of financial statements for a client portfolio, acting as their embedded Controller.
• Establish and enforce the closing calendar, address issues that may impact timely delivery, and facilitate regular month-end review meetings with clients.
• Act as the main point of accountability for communication and follow-through among clients, staff, and partners.
• Develop and implement customized internal control frameworks for each client, identifying and correcting weaknesses.
• Guide clients through financial statement audits, ensuring an accurate, audit-ready year-end close and account analysis.
• Manage client budgeting processes, track actuals against projections, and counsel leadership on variances and necessary corrective actions.
• Offer advisory and technical expertise in tax service delivery, purchase accounting including M&A transaction support, and payroll advisory, including payroll tax compliance and research.
• Recruit, mentor, and develop staff and seniors.
• Contribute to departmental strategy and high-level decision-making as the practice expands.
• A minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in accounting or finance within public accounting, industry, or a combination of both.
• At least 2 years of experience in training and supervising staff.
• Must be a licensed and currently active CPA.
• Previous experience working with clients across various industries, including manufacturing, nonprofit organizations, and SaaS companies.
• Proficient in multiple accounting platforms such as QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, NetSuite, and similar tools.
• BA/BS degree in accounting or a related field from an accredited university.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, both independently and as part of a team.
• A Master’s degree in accounting or a comparable qualification is preferred.
• Prior experience in Client Accounting and Advisory Services (CAAS) is preferred.
• Experience in building and scaling an offshore team is preferred.
