Controller

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes comprehensively, which includes journal entries, account reconciliations, and consolidations.

• Prepare and take final ownership of precise and timely GAAP financial statements along with supporting management reporting packages.

• Design, implement, and uphold the internal control environment as Mainstay expands, establishing a strong foundation for future audit and compliance needs.

• Set technical accounting policies by researching and documenting stances on revenue recognition, equity, leases, and other complex matters, acting as the company's authoritative source on GAAP issues.

• Define and implement scalable finance and accounting data structures across the ERP, internally managed databases, and diverse product group data assets.

• Manage the external audit relationship, including PBC schedules, coordination with auditors, and final resolution of technical issues.

• Collaborate with the Head of Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.

• Work with Legal and People teams to maintain and manage the cap table.

• Build, guide, and mentor the accounting team as it expands, including hiring and developing accounting staff.

• Own the strategy for accounting systems and ERP, driving automation and process enhancements as transaction volumes grow.

• Lead special projects related to fundraising, board reporting, and other strategic initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA is highly preferred.

• More than 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including previous roles as a Controller or Assistant Controller.

• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, with proven experience managing a complete close and independently preparing consolidated financial statements.

• Advanced Excel capabilities and familiarity with a modern ERP/accounting system.

• Previous experience in managing and developing an accounting team.
