This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Manage the operational framework of Engine's accounting function, encompassing talent, closing integrity, controls, and automation.
• Develop a more transparent and accountable Accounting operating model.
• Assemble a high-performing Accounting leadership team and enhance talent density.
• Expand AI and automation initiatives within Accounting through Systems and cross-functional collaboration.
• Revamp the current 5-day closing process and enhance ownership across revenue, accounts receivable, payroll, tax, consolidations, reconciliations, and reporting.
• Make high-level decisions regarding intricate accounting and operational challenges.
• Propel cross-functional execution involving Product, Finance, Tax, Legal, Credit, Fraud, Sales, People, and Systems.
• Prepare Accounting systems, processes, leadership depth, and controls for increased transaction volumes, new revenue channels, international growth, card receivables, rewards, supplier economics, intercompany activities, and foreign exchange.
• Achieve tangible enhancements in capacity, accuracy, cycle time, issue resolution, and complexity management within 6 to 12 months.
• Over 10 years of progressive accounting leadership experience, including roles such as Controller, Assistant Controller, or similar responsibilities in a high-growth setting.
• CPA certification is highly preferred.
• Demonstrated success in enhancing an established accounting function.
• Proven track record of elevating the talent standard, developing teams, and creating leadership depth.
• AI-driven and automation-focused operational style with a proven ability to minimize manual tasks and generate measurable operational efficiency.
• Strong experience in multi-entity closing, consolidation, reconciliation, and financial statement preparation.
• Technical accounting expertise in areas such as ASC 606, including gross-versus-net and principal-agent analysis, ASC 842, ASC 718, reserves, and other judgment-intensive areas.
• Excellent judgment and a decisive approach; capable of making decisions with incomplete information while maintaining a focus on execution.
• Nice-to-have: experience in travel, marketplace, fintech, payments, card programs, or high-volume transaction accounting.
• Nice-to-have: familiarity with card receivables, rewards, supplier economics, merchant and agency models, or intricate revenue streams.
• Nice-to-have: international experience, including intercompany transactions, foreign exchange, VAT/GST, transfer pricing support, or statutory reporting.
• Nice-to-have: knowledge of NetSuite and modern tools for closing, reconciliation, workflow, business intelligence, automation, and AI.
