This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Take responsibility for all elements of Canopy’s accounting operations.

• Assist the CFO in overseeing processes from revenue contracting through to recognition and collection.

• Establish the roadmap for the accounting team and deliver accounting services effectively.

• Deploy a new AI-native ERP system and enhance the finance technology infrastructure.

• Manage revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606, including hardware, implementation services, contract modifications, deferred revenue, commissions, and reporting.

• Collaborate with Sales, Legal, CX, and Finance teams to address order-to-cash accounting implications.

• Utilize AI to automate reconciliations, flux analysis, and accounting workflows.

• Work closely with Operations on inventory tracking, reserves, and reporting duties.

• Redesign monthly closing processes to achieve a seven-business-day close, with the aim of reducing it to five days or less.

• Be responsible for technical accounting policies and ensure GAAP compliance.

• Lead the annual audit, oversee tax compliance, manage the corporate insurance program, and support investor reporting.

• Recruit, mentor, and nurture the accounting team.

• Collaborate with leadership, engage in significant contract and operational discussions, and identify risks and opportunities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of accounting experience.

• Minimum of 4 years managing the close process at a high-growth, venture-backed startup.

• Active CPA certification.

• Experience with a Big 4 accounting firm.

• A hands-on builder mentality; capable of performing, automating, and instructing the close process.

• A collaborative approach and ability to work cross-functionally.

• Proven experience in hiring, mentoring, and developing staff.

• Familiarity and comfort with AI tools and native systems.

• Experience in implementing an AI-native ERP is highly desirable.

• Experience managing a well-executed annual audit process.

• Strong technical accounting skills are essential.

• Experience in the SaaS industry is required.

• Background in healthcare is a plus.
