Control Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Safely manage Leep’s high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) electricity networks.

• Ensure that authorized personnel, Independent Connection Providers (ICPs), repair contractors, and street lighting teams adhere to Leep’s Distribution Safety Rules and Approved Codes of Practice.

• Develop and sustain relationships with developers, ICPs, street lighting partners, contractors, and other stakeholders.

• Onboard, conduct technical assessments, and oversee ICPs, developers, and street lighting partners for obtaining LV self-authorization status.

• Assist in the auditing and compliance management of designated Repairing Contractors, including onboarding, periodic reviews, and site audits.

• Take ownership of, develop, and maintain Approved Codes of Practice, Group Standard Operating Procedures, and operational documentation.

• Ensure that Transfer of Control activities align with Leep’s codes, procedures, SHEQ policies, UK legislation, ENA Engineering Recommendations, Ofgem license obligations, and regulatory requirements.

• Coordinate supply restoration efforts and manage incidents safely, adhering to Ofgem standards of performance.

• Utilize network monitoring systems, live network drawings like VizNet, and operational tools for making real-time network decisions and restorations.

• Aid in the development, implementation, and monitoring of Control systems, including SCADA and network modeling applications.

• Provide Control training to Duty Control Engineers and offer operational and project team guidance.

• Maintain auditable records, including authorizations, energization requests, restoration activities, site mimics, control logs, and handovers.

• Coordinate daily and weekly operational governance, Control handovers, meetings, action tracking, and information requests.

• Oversee and manage the Control mailbox.

• Support operational risk assessments, budget planning, forecasting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Participate in the 24/7/365 Control rota, taking on the Duty Control and Supply Restoration Manager role on a 1-in-3 basis.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in managing LV network operations and supply restoration activities.

• Experience working under the direction of Control in a network operations environment.

• Strong working knowledge and practical application of safety documentation, including Letters of Authority (LOAs), Permits, Transfer of Control (TOCs), Incident Operations Evaluations (IOEs), and Safety First Time (SFTs).

• Hold industry LV and 11kV network authorizations, with a minimum qualification of SAP (11kV).

• Exceptional organizational skills, with the capability to prioritize changing workloads and respond to urgent operational needs.

• High levels of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly in maintaining Control logs and network records.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

• A safe and pragmatic approach to network management, policy development, and regulatory compliance.

• Desirable: Experience managing limited HV supply restoration activities.

• Desirable: Experience working within a Control environment.

• Desirable: Experience leading and coordinating remote restoration teams across civil and electrical disciplines.

• Desirable: Knowledge and experience with street works and civil activities.

• Desirable: Experience developing Codes of Practice, operational procedures, and other technical documentation.
