This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Assess and evaluate transactional commercial surety submissions, which include, but are not limited to, motor vehicle dealer (MVD), license & permit, subdivision, court, contract-related transactional, mortgage broker, and specialty bonds.
• Review financial statements, credit reports, and supporting documents to evaluate risk and establish suitable terms, conditions, and pricing.
• Utilize underwriting authority to approve, decline, or adjust submissions in accordance with company policies and risk appetite.
• Ensure adherence to internal underwriting standards, regulatory obligations, and state-specific bonding requirements.
• Handle a substantial volume of transactional submissions while upholding rapid turnaround times and service excellence.
• Oversee and manage a portfolio to guarantee profitability, retention, and adequate risk diversification.
• Recognize opportunities for cross-selling and expanding accounts within current agency partnerships.
• Cultivate and sustain robust relationships with agency partners to enhance submission flow and expand market presence.
• Clearly communicate underwriting decisions, including providing logical explanations and alternative solutions when suitable.
• Negotiate terms, pricing, and commission structures to remain competitive while upholding underwriting standards.
• Serve as a market-facing representative to bolster agency growth and retention strategies.
• Assist in new business development by pinpointing target agencies and producers in the transactional surety sector.
• Engage in agency visits, industry events, and networking opportunities to strengthen relationships and enhance brand visibility.
• Maintain precise documentation and records within underwriting systems.
• Ensure the prompt issuance of bonds, endorsements, renewals, and cancellations.
• Collaborate with internal teams (claims, legal, compliance, operations) as needed to fulfill business goals.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in commercial surety underwriting, particularly in transactional business is required.
• Established connections within the surety agency/broker community are essential.
• Demonstrated experience in underwriting a diverse range of bond types (e.g., MVD, subdivision, license & permit, court, contractor-related transactional, specialty bonds).
• Strong grasp of credit analysis, risk evaluation, and financial statement assessment.
• Proven ability to manage a high volume of submissions while maintaining underwriting standards.
• Experience in negotiating terms, pricing, and commissions in a competitive environment.
• Familiarity with state-specific bonding requirements and the regulatory landscape is preferred.
