This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Louisiana, +1 more state.
• Oversee the underwriting, marketing, production, profitability, and comprehensive management of a regional Commercial Surety portfolio.
• Act as the principal underwriting leader for the designated territory.
• Analyze, assess, and authorize commercial surety submissions within the designated authority.
• Review and evaluate financial statements, interim financial reports, work-in-progress schedules, bank agreements, credit reports, tax returns, and additional underwriting information.
• Structure and negotiate underwriting terms, collateral requirements, indemnity agreements, and other risk mitigation strategies.
• Monitor portfolio performance and implement corrective actions as needed to meet profitability goals.
• Develop and implement regional marketing and production strategies.
• Cultivate and enhance relationships with retail and wholesale surety brokers.
• Drive submission flow and enhance market visibility across the territory.
• Take ownership of profit and loss outcomes for the assigned region.
• Manage portfolio composition, pricing sufficiency, retention, and growth metrics.
• Recruit, train, mentor, and develop commercial surety underwriters.
• Provide responsive, solution-focused service to brokers and insured parties.
• Maintain a high degree of market visibility and accessibility.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field is mandatory.
• An advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g. AFSB, CPCU, etc.) are preferred.
• Demonstrated experience (typically 5+ years) in underwriting positions within the surety sector.
• Proven track record of developing agency relationships and driving profitable growth.
• Established business development and marketing expertise.
• Willingness to travel within the assigned territory.
• Strong knowledge and understanding of commercial surety.
• Proficient in financial statement analysis and credit underwriting skills.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation abilities.
• Capability to exercise independent underwriting judgment.
