College Sports Content Coach

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee a team of writers focused on local sports relevant to their respective areas. Provide management and support to foster their development through coaching and constructive feedback.

• Instruct them on effective time management and how to recognize compelling story ideas.

• Edit content, frequently under tight deadlines, from writers nationwide, including those affiliated with other editors and content coaches.

• Join the leadership team for CCJ’s coverage of high schools or colleges, absorbing best practices to share with writers and proposing ideas to enhance coverage quality.

• Utilize metrics and analytics to discern what resonates with various local audiences and what does not, enabling us to tailor our sports coverage to better serve our audience.

• Collaborate with other CCJ sports editors and content coaches, alongside other departments within the organization.

• Be prepared to work evenings, weekends, and occasionally holidays as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, digital media, or a comparable mix of education and experience.

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a news organization.

• Ability to identify stories that resonate with sports fans in local markets and leverage them to stand out in a competitive landscape.

• Strong news judgment coupled with excellent communication skills and the capacity to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced news environment.

• Proven dedication to producing and promoting journalism that is both influential and authoritative.

• Experience utilizing analytics to inform coverage strategies and story execution.

• Capability to manage, coach, and inspire sports journalists to pursue improvement and professional growth.
