This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +6 more states.
• Accurately assign CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II codes for professional surgical services based on comprehensive medical record assessment.
• Assess medical records to ensure proper code assignment, completeness, accuracy, and justification of medical necessity.
• Maintain coding compliance with CMS, commercial payers, and regulatory standards.
• Detect and resolve issues related to undercoding, overcoding, modifier misuse, and unbundling.
• Utilize appropriate modifiers and verify correct provider, place of service, and payer selection.
• Conduct claim reviews to facilitate clean claim submissions and minimize denials.
• Audit coding accuracy through ad hoc reports, targeted reviews, and special initiatives.
• Examine coding-related denials and propose corrective measures.
• Review payer policies and keep abreast of annual coding updates and regulatory modifications.
• Collaborate with providers and operational leadership to enhance documentation and coding specificity.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least five (5) years of professional medical coding experience.
• Strong experience in surgical coding is essential.
• Active coding certification from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) (e.g., CPC) or the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) (e.g., CCS-P).
• Proficient in EHR systems, practice management software, and claim scrubber tools.
• In-depth knowledge of CPT procedure coding, HCPCS Level II procedure and supply codes, and ICD-10-CM diagnosis coding.
