This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee the operational coding functions within the Health Information Management Department for designated markets and acute care facilities.
• Responsible for recruitment, planning, organization, staffing, supervision, orientation, ongoing training, evaluations, coaching, and development of all coding personnel.
• Accountable for achieving the coding associate Revenue Cycle Goals set by the Company while adhering to all regulatory and governmental standards.
• Aids in formulating strategic and operational coding-related objectives for the system.
• Conducts interviews and recruits staff; facilitates orientation for new hires; prepares staffing schedules, and ensures timely mid-year and performance evaluations.
• Works alongside the Coding Education and Quality Coordinator to ensure that on-the-job training is effectively implemented for all job responsibilities of staff under their supervision.
• Tracks the progress of new hires, confirming that competency standards have been met.
• Provides timely, clear, and constructive feedback.
• Responsible for coordinating and managing all activities related to coding and abstracting records while ensuring adherence to all regulatory guidelines and the American Hospital Association (AHA) Official Coding Guidelines.
• Keeps abreast of industry, federal, state, and system standards and integrates this knowledge into daily operations.
• Monitors productivity to ensure that work performance aligns with job standards and assists in resolving day-to-day challenges that may adversely affect staff.
• Encourages an environment of professional growth and development by being a "continual learner" and promoting ongoing development for others.
• Recognizes and coaches employees, and when necessary, implements disciplinary actions for violations of Mercy Policies.
• Conducts regular update meetings for staff to guarantee that all employees receive relevant communication regarding departmental, hospital, market, and company changes/events.
• Establishes and maintains effective, collaborative relationships with the Medical Staff, Executive Team, Revenue Cycle Leadership, other ancillary departments, and peers.
• Fosters a harmonious working environment that promotes empowerment, inspires, motivates, and models supportive behaviors, resulting in increased productivity and teamwork.
• Assists in the formulation of Revenue Cycle goals, objectives, and policies/procedures, and participates in various committees as needed, acting as the subject matter expert on coding issues.
• 5-7 years of experience in coding and leadership.
• Extensive knowledge and experience in Pediatric coding specialty with the capability to educate and support the coding team and providers.
• Previous management experience in Coding is preferred.
• Comprehensive understanding of Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) and All Patients.
• In-depth knowledge of coding guidelines and payer-specific requirements.
• Proficient in electronic medical records (EMR), coding software, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Successful completion of Anatomy and Physiology as well as Medical Terminology courses.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex coding requirements to others.
• Capable of functioning under constant deadlines.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to efficiently prioritize projects.
• Demonstrated advanced use of AI and the management of teams utilizing AI to enhance processes and technological improvements, including exploration, experimentation, and application of AI.
