This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Accountable for ensuring timely and precise coding for reimbursement and data collection purposes.
• Oversees the daily tasks of coding and support team members.
• Manages the daily coding operations and support functions within Health Information Management Services.
• Receives and prints management exception reports, examines discrepancies, and implements necessary corrections.
• Identifies opportunities for reducing inpatient DNFB.
• Serves as a liaison among the facility, physicians, and ancillary departments to resolve problematic accounts.
• Develops coding policies and procedures in alignment with CMS, AHIMA, AHA, and AMA guidelines.
• Coordinates the installation and provides training for enhancements and updates of coding/abstracting computer systems.
• Trains coding personnel on current guidelines, regulations, codes, payment schemes, and data element requirements.
• Acts as a coding subject matter expert for other departments as designated by the coding management team.
• Analyzes and reports on trends to identify improvement opportunities.
• Utilizes Focus PDCA methodology to enhance coding section performance.
• Responsible for the accuracy of databases, queries, and report writing related to coding and abstracting as assigned.
• Confirms the accuracy of coding and abstracting through quantitative and qualitative reviews.
• Codes inpatient and outpatient accounts as necessary to avoid backlog situations.
• RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification, or an equivalent certification/degree.
• College coursework in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• Minimum of three years coding experience in a Health Information Management Department or a related field.
• Experience in implementing and maintaining computer systems.
