This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado, +12 more states.
• Evaluates medical record documentation to extract and assign diagnoses, procedures, and modifiers for statistical classification and reimbursement objectives.
• Offers insights on documentation and coding challenges.
• Employs software applications and coding resources to execute coding-related activities.
• Maintains knowledge of and ensures adherence to all relevant Official Coding Guidelines.
• Submits a thoroughly completed and precise production log on a weekly basis in a timely fashion.
• Engages in coder and provider training, including initiatives for documentation enhancement for providers.
• Collaborates with providers, nursing staff, and departments as assigned.
• Aids in the training and quality assurance processes for all coding levels.
• Completes any necessary coding training or other designated coding education.
• Post High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Five years of medical coding experience with multi-specialty exposure or specialty certification is required.
• Two years of experience in an academic environment is required.
• Proficiency in all major specialties is required.
• Strong procedural coding skills are required.
• Experience in reviewing DRG assignment is required.
• Familiarity with encoder and data abstraction software is essential.
• In-depth understanding of billing and reimbursement is necessary.
• Must achieve a coding proficiency pre-hire test score of 85% accuracy or higher.
• Competent computer keyboarding skills are necessary.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required.
• Experience with Epic is advantageous.
• Experience with encoders is beneficial.
