This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Adhere to regulatory standards when reporting and sequencing ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, HCPCS Level II, and CPT codes.
• Create coding queries directed at physicians to resolve any conflicting or unclear patient information.
• Accurately input ABS data, including the surgeon's name, procedure date, discharge disposition, admitting diagnosis, and POA status.
• Ensure compliance with bill drop deadlines and oversee accounts receivable for pending, aged, or problematic accounts.
• Accurately report principal and secondary diagnoses in line with AHA Coding Clinic and ICD-10-CM guidelines.
• Manage NCCI and OPPS edits, applying modifiers as necessary.
• Inform the Business Office and ancillary departments regarding charges that need to be added or removed.
• Detect recurring charging issues and escalate them to the supervisor.
• Apply the relevant diagnosis and procedural codes to ensure correct DRG/APC assignments.
• Precisely code and report procedure codes in accordance with applicable coding and payer standards.
• Submit reports on productive and non-productive variations within the designated timeframe.
• High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
• Certification as a CCS or CPC.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States and fulfill Virginia state employment criteria.
• Completion of an Accredited Coding Program is preferred.
• Preferred certifications include CCS, RHIT, RHIA, CCA, COC, CIC, CPC-A.
• A minimum of three years of coding experience is preferred.
• Prior experience in a hospital, healthcare system, or similar service-oriented setting is desired.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with good interpersonal abilities.
• Proficient in the use of computer applications, grouper software, Medicare edits, and coding and abstracting software and hardware.
• Extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes.
• Analytical skills to interpret clinical data across various specialties for accurate code assignment.
• Capable of abstracting chart data into a computer module.
• Ability to work autonomously, a willingness to learn, attention to detail, and strong critical thinking skills.
