Claims Program Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.

📋 Description

• Oversee complex and high-exposure medical malpractice claims, which include those related to hospitals, employed physicians, and deductible policies.

• Represent BSMH during pre-trial hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and the majority of trials.

• Direct and manage staff in alignment with the organization's objectives and goals.

• Conduct annual evaluations of the effectiveness of defense counsel.

• Implement and monitor claims associated with the Early Liability Review Program.

• Establish accurate reserves based on established formulas whenever feasible.

• Detect potential claims at the reporting stage and coordinate necessary follow-ups, including expert evaluations prior to any lawsuits or notices of potential suits.

• Collaborate extensively with outside defense counsel to manage claims effectively.

• Ensure accurate billing from outside defense counsel is verified.

• Oversee policy reviews to ensure proper commercial-policy coverage and alignment with the Captive.

• Clarify claim options, risks, and alternatives to market and senior leaders within the group.

• Work closely with employed physicians who are named in lawsuits.

• Partner with Risk Management on effective claim management.

• Handle coverage issues in collaboration with insurance staff.

• Provide guidance and oversight for staff responsibilities and projects.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor's degree is required.

• A minimum of seven years of experience in managing professional liability claims.

• Must be able to work during Eastern Time Zone hours.

• Preferred qualifications include insurance coursework or credentials such as CPCU, AIC, ARM, or courses from the Insurance Institute.
