Claims Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Oversee a diverse team of supervisors and adjusters with varying levels of technical expertise, responsible for recruitment, onboarding, training, coaching, and managing performance.

• Provide guidance and mentorship to adjusters and supervisors, promoting engagement, accountability, professional growth, and employee retention.

• Share the responsibility for evaluating all new claim files and assigning them to the suitable adjuster based on their experience, licensure, and current workload.

• Document technical supervisory notes in each file at the 30-day mark and at least every 90 days thereafter, or more frequently as the complexity of claims requires.

• Handle escalated complaint calls from clients, insureds, and claimants, collaborating with teams to resolve issues efficiently and effectively.

• Facilitate claim conferences with adjusters, carrier partners, defense counsel, coverage counsel, and other relevant vendors as necessary.

• Review coverage evaluations, coverage letters, reserves, and significant payments to ensure they are accurate, timely, and compliant with best practices and authority levels.

• Engage in assigned task forces, committees, and cross-functional initiatives aimed at continuous improvement and operational effectiveness.

• Conduct training seminars and technical workshops for both new and existing employees.

• Manage a portfolio of key, large exposure, sensitive, or escalated claim files as required.

• Perform internal audits on a quarterly basis and ensure timely resolution of any findings.

• Identify, report, and monitor Notices of High Potential (NHP) claims and adverse trends.

• Present claim files and operational results during weekly roundtables and leadership meetings.

• Collaborate with the Senior Vice President of Claims to enhance departmental procedures, workflows, metrics, and KPIs.

• Assist in audit compliance, resource planning, and staffing needs while promoting efficiency and quality outcomes.

• Undertake additional responsibilities to support departmental objectives, compliance mandates, and overall claims performance.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and claims management experience.

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in insurance claims.

• At least 5 years of progressively responsible claims management experience, including exposure to litigation.

• Proven experience in leading, developing, and supervising claims professionals.

• Strong understanding of California claims regulations, with multi-jurisdictional experience being an advantage.

• Must hold a Qualified Claims Manager license in the State of California, with the ability to maintain required certifications.

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to leverage data and reporting for informed decision-making.

• Competent in computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and claims management systems.

• Background/experience should encompass:

• Construction liability, construction defect, GL/PD, GL/BI, Excess, and high-level coverage evaluation.

• Understanding of claims handling requirements and legal trends across all 50 states.

• Experience in NYLL, Energy, Environmental, and Transportation is a plus.
