This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Responsible for consulting with claims personnel on various claims matters, such as coverage, indemnification, policy limit demand reviews, indemnity agreement assessments, and release language evaluations.
• Identifies coverage concerns that necessitate referral to external counsel and collaborates with outside legal representatives as required.
• Manage certain policyholder lawsuits against the company and partner with outside counsel in overseeing the litigation process.
• Attend mediations as necessary.
• Provide training to claims staff regarding different jurisdictional matters and Fair Claims Practices.
• Address insurance claims inquiries from various departments.
• Work in close collaboration with the Claims Legal team to deliver exceptional service to claims personnel.
• Accountable for monitoring claim files submitted to Claims Legal, demonstrating organizational skills, and scheduling cases for future follow-up.
• Engage in roundtable discussions on various claims-related subjects, including trial authority, and lead future follow-up on action items.
• Collaborate with current Panel Counsel to ensure uniformity of service for CIG insureds.
• May also take part in or lead efforts to identify new firms for inclusion in the Panel list.
• Work alongside Analysts in Claims Legal to ensure uniformity in Reinsurance reporting as required.
• Possess the ability to analyze intricate insurance claims scenarios and formulate recommendations for claims staff.
• Capable of managing conflicting demands from multiple stakeholders in a dynamic environment while maintaining attention to detail.
• Exhibit strong communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
• Able to interact with various levels within the organization.
• Willingness to travel (<10%) as necessary to meet business requirements.
• Demonstrate organizational skills and effective time management to balance competing priorities.
• Possess proficient research skills and the ability to stay updated on changes in case law and regulatory requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree and JD from an accredited law school are mandatory.
• Must be a member in good standing of the bar in any CIG operating state (Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington).
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in property and casualty insurance is required.
• Experience in an insurance company claims department and/or law firm environment is essential.
• First Party Property experience is highly preferred.
• Experience in advising on or litigating first party property coverage issues is strongly preferred.
• Experience in the adjustment and/or oversight of complex claims is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with the following jurisdictions is preferred: California and Washington.
• CPCU designation is preferred.
• A valid driver’s license may be necessary.
• Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring current or future visa sponsorship.
