This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Oversee and direct all civil work at substation and transmission line locations, ensuring adherence to approved designs, specifications, and construction timelines.
• Design and manage earthworks, grading, drainage systems, access roads, cable trenches, and foundations (for equipment, controls buildings, and towers/poles) related to substations and transmission lines.
• Analyze, interpret, and generate civil design drawings and technical documents, identify discrepancies, and offer practical solutions.
• Conduct site surveys, including geotechnical and ground/LIDAR assessments, to aid in determining transmission line routes and substation configurations.
• Review and sanction civil construction methodologies, work plans, and method statements submitted by contractors.
• Detect and address site concerns such as geotechnical conditions, access issues, environmental constraints, and constructability challenges by providing prompt technical support.
• Collaborate closely with electrical, protection, commissioning, planning, and project management teams to resolve interface and constructability challenges.
• Communicate daily with the client's internal engineers and technical specialists.
• Build and sustain professional relationships with clients.
• Offer technical guidance to site civil engineers and inspectors, assigning tasks, reviewing work, and mentoring team members.
• Fully knowledgeable in reviewing and evaluating work sequences, general content, and methods used for generating specifications related to calculations, including their approval, revision, retention, and storage.
• Assist in the development of task and effort estimates for proposal support.
• Aid project commissioning and handover by ensuring that all site civil work is completed safely and in accordance with specifications.
• Understand and assist in planning and scheduling engineering tasks within the site civil discipline.
• Strive to maintain positive working relationships with colleagues.
• Some travel may be required to other AECOM locations and client sites.
• Capable of participating in field walks, creating field sketches, taking measurements, climbing ladders, etc., as necessary.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering along with 6 years of relevant experience or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
• Professional Engineering license (P.E.).
• Established experience in site grading, drainage, road construction, earthworks, and development of substation layouts and transmission access/alignment.
• Proficient in AutoCAD or MicroStation for civil design and detailing.
• Knowledge of substation site planning, transmission/substation access requirements, and integration with electrical layouts.
