This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as a financial and strategic ally to the CEO in creating and expanding the organization's revenue-generating business lines, including research, advisory services, and technology-driven products.

• Develop financial models, pricing strategies, and margin analyses for new consulting and product offerings that lack historical benchmarks.

• Create projections for unit economics and financial sustainability for technology-driven products, covering customer acquisition costs, lifetime value, and break-even analysis.

• Establish pricing frameworks and contract structures for consulting engagements, which encompass fixed-fee, time-and-materials, and retainer models.

• Provide guidance on make-vs-buy and build-vs-partner decisions as the organization enhances its technology and product capabilities.

• Convert strategic priorities into sprint budgets and multi-year financial plans that align with realistic revenue ramp expectations and cost structures.

• Recognize financial risks and opportunities associated with the organization's business model pivot and proactively communicate them to the CEO and board.

• Directly oversee a team of four finance and grants management staff, offering daily supervision, performance feedback, and professional growth support.

• Manage all financial aspects of the organization's federal award portfolio, ensuring compliance with 2 CFR Part 200 (Uniform Guidance) and relevant agency-specific requirements.

• Maintain the general ledger and supervise all accounting operations within QuickBooks.

• Prepare and/or review and approve monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with nonprofit GAAP, including functional expense allocation among program, management and general, and fundraising categories.

• Lead the annual organizational budgeting process and sustain rolling financial projections across programmatic, administrative, and fundraising sectors.


⛳️ Requirements

• Active CPA license is mandatory.

• Minimum of 10 years of progressive financial management experience, with at least 5 years in a senior finance leadership position.

• Proven experience managing federal grant finances under 2 CFR Part 200, including NICRA application, federal financial reporting, and compliance with single audits.

• Demonstrated experience in building financial infrastructure for a revenue-generating services or product business, such as consulting, professional services, SaaS, or similar models.

• Established ability to create financial models, pricing frameworks, and unit economics for new business lines from the ground up (i.e., startup experience).

• Strong understanding of nonprofit GAAP, functional expense allocation, and Form 990 reporting.

• Experience in reviewing and negotiating professional services agreements and subcontracts.

• Proficiency in QuickBooks and financial reporting tools.

• Ability to function effectively in a lean, fully remote organization with a high level of individual accountability.

• Strongly Preferred: MBA or another graduate degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field, given the strategic finance and business development aspects of the role.

• Experience in a research, consulting, or technical assistance nonprofit serving both federal and non-federal funders and clients.

• Familiarity with NICRA negotiation and indirect cost rate proposal preparation.

• Experience in pricing and structuring contracts for consulting, advisory, or technology services.

• Exposure to SaaS business models, subscription revenue, and product unit economics.

• Experience in supporting affiliated entity structures and multi-entity board governance.

• Comfort with AI tools and a proven ability to assess and manage their use within an organizational context.
