This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead a team of five, including direct oversight of the Senior Director of People & Culture, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, and Manager of People & Culture roles.
• Oversee and manage People & Culture functions, with responsibilities including:
• Cultivating a positive, safe, equitable, and inclusive workplace culture.
• Designing and aligning roles, responsibilities, and reporting structures in collaboration with the CEO and Chiefs.
• Promoting professional development and growth opportunities.
• Implementing performance and accountability systems.
• Managing the compensation and benefits framework.
• Ensuring compliance with employment regulations.
• Supervise and manage all financial operations, ensuring financial oversight and monitoring, which includes:
• Establishing and maintaining appropriate financial policies, internal accounting controls, and overseeing accounting systems.
• Advising the CEO, Chiefs, and Board of Directors on the organization's financial health and culture.
• Leading and supporting the organizational budgeting process and multi-year financial planning to align with organizational strategy and growth.
• Directing the preparation for independent audits, including drafting financial statements and information for Form 990.
• Ensuring accurate revenue recognition for all income sources.
• Overseeing the month-end closing process, which includes reviewing and approving employee expense reports, credit card transactions, and account reconciliations.
• Reviewing and analyzing financial proposals and reports.
• Collaborating with the Vice President of Strategy & Development on shared responsibilities, including accounting for philanthropic gifts, revenue projections, and annual charitable registration filings.
• Partnering with program leads to monitor and regularly assess programmatic progress and expenditures on restricted grants.
• Working with program and development staff to create proposal budgets.
• Establishing and maintaining relationships with financial entities, including banks, investment firms, the IRS, and independent auditors.
• Bachelor's degree.
• At least 10 to 15 years of relevant experience as a Chief Financial Officer, Finance Director, or Controller with human resources management in a non-profit organization.
• Seven years of supervisory experience.
• Extensive knowledge of non-profit GAAP, particularly regarding revenue recognition and grant accounting, as well as 501(c)(3) compliance requirements.
• Exceptional review skills with a keen attention to detail.
• High proficiency with leading HRIS and accounting software applications (Microsoft Dynamics Business Central preferred) and strong skills in spreadsheets.
• Proven experience in developing and monitoring organizational operating budgets.
• Comfortable working virtually with remote staff, utilizing cloud-based communication and software systems.
• Ability to quickly synthesize information and make informed decisions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the capacity to simplify complex financial and legal compliance issues.
