Chief Certification Officer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Oversee and manage the entire certification function, including methodology design, audit execution, quality assurance, and final certification decisions.

• Personally perform the initial 20–30 AI governance certifications to set a quality benchmark.

• Develop and enhance the certification methodology in alignment with EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001, and GDPR requirements utilizing the Clause 5 Framework™.

• Build, recruit, train, and supervise a team of certification auditors as the volume of work increases.

• Create auditor training programs, establish quality standards, and develop professional growth pathways.

• Act as the public representative of the certification authority, engaging with regulators, standards organizations, industry associations, and at conferences on behalf of Clause5afe.

• Work closely with the Director of Certification Operations on engagement scoping, delivery workflows, and client communications.

• Offer expert advice on regulatory changes and their impact on certification requirements.

• Assist investor relations and enterprise sales by providing subject matter expertise on certification credibility and methodology.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 15 years of experience in compliance, auditing, risk management, or governance, preferably within regulated sectors such as financial services, healthcare, or critical infrastructure.

• Previous experience as a Big 4 audit partner/senior manager, senior compliance executive, or in an equivalent leadership role at a recognized certification or standards organization.

• In-depth knowledge of at least three of the following: EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001, GDPR, SOC 2.

• Proven track record of building audit/certification teams from the ground up.

• Professional reputation that earns respect from Fortune 500 CISOs, Chief Compliance Officers, and General Counsel.

• Familiarity with AI/ML systems and the associated governance challenges (engineering expertise is not required, but an understanding of the audit process is essential).

• Strong executive presence and the capability to represent Clause5afe in regulatory, media, and investor contexts.
