This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Create and develop pipelines to gather supplier data and chemical product details (specifications, CAS numbers, certifications, SDS/regulatory documents, NAICS classification of manufacturing facilities) from supplier websites, distributor catalogs, trade databases, and various public and semi-structured sources.
• Build and maintain web scrapers and automated ETL workflows to ensure supplier and product data remains up-to-date at scale.
• Cleanse, normalize, and reconcile inconsistent supplier data into structured, standardized formats that are suitable for internal tools and analytics.
• Utilize chemical domain expertise to validate and enhance data — resolving discrepancies in product names, CAS numbers, synonyms, and specifications across various suppliers.
• Assess and enhance matching and classification models to align suppliers and products with buyer requirements, while identifying overlapping or equivalent chemical offerings.
• Collaborate with Supplier Management and Engineering to establish data quality standards, pinpoint gaps in supplier coverage, and prioritize new data sources.
• Take ownership of pipeline integrity and data quality, and drive the KPIs that evaluate overall data coverage.
• A minimum of 5 years' experience in a data science, data engineering, or applied data role, preferably with experience in messy, real-world or industrial datasets.
• Proficient understanding of chemistry or chemical industry data — familiarity with CAS numbers, chemical properties, SDS documents, NAICS classification, and supplier certifications.
• Strong Python programming skills, with a background in building web scrapers and data pipelines.
• Experience in data cleaning and normalization at scale, with a keen eye for identifying inconsistencies in unstructured data.
• Knowledge of constructing or utilizing matching, deduplication, or classification models (traditional ML or LLM-based approaches).
• Practical experience using AI tools and LLMs to enhance data extraction, enrichment, or engineering workflows.
• A startup mentality with a strong sense of ownership — adept at working independently in a dynamic, remote setting with ambiguous and shifting priorities.
